Who Is Serena Williams?

Born in 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan, Serena Williams began intensive tennis training at age 3. She won her first major championship in 1999 and completed the career Grand Slam in 2003. Along with her individual success, Serena has teamed with sister Venus Williams to win a series of doubles titles. In 2017, she defeated her big sister at the Australian Open to claim the 23rd Grand Slam singles title of her career, surpassing Steffi Graf's record for most wins in the Open era.

Early Life

American tennis player Serena Jameka Williams was born on September 26, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan. The youngest of Richard and Oracene Williams's five daughters, Serena Williams, along with her sister Venus, would grow up to become one of the sport's great champions.
Serena's father—a former sharecropper from Louisiana determined to see his two youngest girls succeed—used what he'd gleaned from tennis books and videos to instruct Serena and Venus on how to play the game. At the age of 3, practicing on a court not far from the family's new Compton, California, home, Serena withstood the rigors of daily two-hour practices from her father.

The NBA, responding to efforts to legalize sports betting in New York, told the state senate the league "supports the passage of a comprehensive sports betting bill." The NBA wants 1 percent of every bet made on its games and also seeks more widespread access to gambling for sports fans. NBA commissioner Adam Silver's league appears to be the first to come around on sports gambling. The league on Wednesday formally requested a set of laws that could be the basis for professional sports leagues pushing for national legalized wagering on games, according to ESPN. Dan Spillane, an attorney for the NBA, testified in front of a New York State Senate committee at a public hearing and for the first time outlined what the league's price would be to become a partner in legalizing the multibillion-dollar industry. Lassana Diarra joins Paris Saint-Germain

France national football squad former midfielder Lassana Diarra has transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, as a free agent, informed the official website of this French club.  The 32-year-old footballer and PSG have signed a contract that is expected to run until June 30, 2019.  Diarra will wear the No. 19 jersey at the club.  His last club was Al Jazira (Abu Dhabi, UAE), where he played in the year past.

Zidane asks Real Madrid supporters not to whistle at Benzema

Real Madrid Manager Zinedine Zidane has expressed support to France forward Karim Benzema, ahead of their Spanish Copa del Rey quarter final return leg against Leganes.  Real fans had whistled Benzema during the football club’s most recent Spanish La Liga match against Deportivo La Coruña. “He [Benzema] wanted to get back quickly and he’s back with the squad now. The only thing he enjoys really is being out with us on the pitch, so it’s good to have him back,”  GOAL  quoted Zidane as saying. “But it’s not good to see him getting whistled when he gets back. This has happened with him and could happen with others.  “What we need from the fans is that they’re with us. Of course, they’re within their rights; they’ve paid so can have opinions, but I want fans to be with us for 90 minutes.  “Karim will be available tomorrow [for the return leg].”  Real Madrid defeated Leganes 1-0 in the first leg.  The return leg will be played at Madrid.

Official: Arsenal Loan Out Nigeria U20 Skipper Nwakali To MVV Maastricht

Dutch club MVV Maastricht have confirmed the loan signing of Nigeria U20 international Kelechi Nwakali from Arsenal. Nwakali had to be recalled from a loan spell at VVV Venlo due to his lack of first-team opportunities, and has penned a deal that will keep him at MVV for the rest of the 2017-2018 campaign. ''Last season we have already seen that Kelechi is a multifunctional attacking midfielder, who has a nose for the 'final pass','' coach  Ron Elsen told  MVV's official website. ''He returns in an attacking and dominant way of playing, as MVV wants to use it.
